Biography

ㅤㅤBanquo is a quiet person, often coming off as standoffish and, despite his attempts at politeness, sometimes rude. This generally isn’t intentional, nor is it out of any kind of malice; he’s just not good with people. He prefers not to make small talk or to get too close to others, and would much rather be alone than saddled with someone else’s emotional baggage.

ㅤㅤDespite his antisocial tendencies, however, he’s quite reliable and responsible. The church raised him with certain values in mind, and no matter Banquo’s personal feelings, he often holds to them, offering assistance to anyone having trouble even if he doesn’t actually want to. This isn’t to the point of overworking himself, but he does have a hard time outright saying “no”.

ㅤㅤHe doesn’t like conflict, however, and his helpfulness doesn't extend to things he perceives as troublemaking or horseplay, and he avoids people he sees causing trouble on the regular (even his dear house leader). That is to say, he won't back you up in an argument, even if you ask nicely.

ㅤㅤBanquo considers himself a devout follower of Seiros, but more specifically, the beliefs that the Eastern Church holds- which are just a bit less strict than that of the Central Church. However, at times, he finds himself faltering in his faith. With concerns about the church growing, he has a tendency to sweep those problems under the rug rather than face them.

ㅤㅤBanquo was born to Count Heinz William Gloucester and one of the maids working at Gloucester Estate. This was, of course, behind the back of the countess, and fearing his son’s Crest would expose his infidelity, Count Gloucester ordered his mistress to dispose of the child if she were to remain working at the estate. She did not have it in her to kill her infant son, and he was instead dropped off at the doorstep of an orphanage in a nearby hunting village.

ㅤㅤBanquo was gifted his name there, and lived there until he was three, when he fell gravely ill. Without the funds to hire a skilled healer, the orphanage called upon the generosity of the Eastern Church to take him in. Miraculously, he made a full recovery, and in the end remained there at the church. He was raised as a member of the clergy and trained exclusively in basic Faith magic, entirely oblivious to his true heritage and the events of his infancy.

ㅤㅤShortly after turning 18, a customary coming-of-age test was performed to ascertain whether or not Banquo harbored a dormant Crest– a test every member of the clergy received after becoming an adult. It was there that his Minor Crest of Gloucester was revealed, and the church’s opinion of him vastly changed overnight. Count Gloucester, after all, had plenty of nasty rumors spread about him, and knowing Banquo was likely a bastard child, they feared the wrath the count would wreak upon them if word got out.

ㅤㅤFiguring the safest solution was to simply get him out of their hair, the clergy came to a decision, and arranged for him to be transferred to Garreg Mach, much to Banquo’s dismay. They sponsored him as a student, knowing he had no interest or experience in fighting or combat, in the hopes that he would come to despise the Eastern Church for sending him there and never return.

ㅤㅤ Most of this was determined behind Banquo’s back, and while he agreed to study there, he still knows little of the true reason he was transferred, and of what, exactly, the existence of his Crest implies.
